The final part of the series on Paul's portrait of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 focuses on the words "Love... it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth". It also turns us to the story of Jesus in the house of Simon the Pharisee when Jesus has his feet washed by the tears of a sinful woman. We learn how love never rejoices at the sin or downfall of others. Instead love rejoices in the Gospel which can change us & others to love the way that Jesus loves. ![]()
Paul writes in his portrait of love that "it does not insist on its own way" (ESV) or "is not self-seeking" (NIV). This heart-searching message challenges us to do, not what is best for ourselves but what is best for the church. The love Christian's are called to love with is a selfless & impartial love that actively seeks what is best for as many as possible. ![]()
Part three of this series on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 zooms in on three phrases - "Love is patient... is not easily angered... always trusts." Drawing on the stories of Jesus feeding the 5000 & Jesus raising Lazarus from death this message challenges & encourages us to show patient love towards people, as well as patient trust towards God when we don't understand his ways.
