This message call's us to make sure we are beginning the New Year on the right foundation & with the right goal in view. Based on the apostle Paul's passionate words in Philippians 3 we're given six things which will help us press on towards the goal of knowing & becoming like Jesus. However it's vitally important to understand that all such pressing on rests on the foundation that Christ pressed on to the cross to make us his own. Most experts believe Psalms 42 & 43 were originally one. This message assumes this. The song is one which opens & closes with hungering after God, but is by no means written from an easy place. Its words teach us much about the life of faith & devotion towards God. They express a desperate desire for God in the midst of struggling through sorrow, mockery, depression, trail, oppression, hurt & turmoil. The writer also feels forgotten & rejected by God. Yet none of these inward & outward struggles are given the last word. Faith & truth keep fighting back & a chorus of hope resounds above everything. None of the negative things rob him of his hunger for more of God. Series: The Great Pursuit ![]()
This message explores the difference between those who spend time encountering God & those who simply allow themselves to be influenced by the desires & demands of others. The message contrasts an encounter Moses had with God up Mount Sinai with how Aaron allowed himself to be influenced by the people at the bottom of the mountain. This helps us to see how vital encountering the one true God is if we are to be strong enough to go against the flow of popular opinion & remain true to God & who he has called us to be.
