In the previous two messages in the series we looked at how the Holy Spirit brings new life to people. In this message we look at how God involves Christian's in bringing life to others by using "us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of [Jesus] everywhere" (2 Cor. 2:14). We learn how the Spirit has come to inscribe the reality of the new life giving covenant on the hearts of believers. He has also come bring freedom to us by focusing us on Jesus & removing all the limits of sin, guilt & failure that hinder us from being fully alive in him.
Key Bible text: 2 Corinthians 2:12--3:18
Series: Holy Spirit
This message highlights the relationship between new birth and faith in Jesus. New birth awakens genuine, enduring & focused faith in Jesus. New birth is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in a human heart. The only true Christian is a born again Christian. However the Gospel of John also makes something else clear: Jesus himself is the life the Holy Spirit gives. New birth connects us to Jesus by awakening faith in him. The message also looks at the relationship between the Word & Spirit in new birth.
Key Bible Texts: John 2:23-3:8; 1 John 5:4-5; John 17:3; 1 Peter 1:23

Most experts believe Psalms 42 & 43 were originally one. This message assumes this. The song is one which opens & closes with hungering after God, but is by no means written from an easy place. Its words teach us much about the life of faith & devotion towards God. They express a desperate desire for God in the midst of struggling through sorrow, mockery, depression, trail, oppression, hurt & turmoil. The writer also feels forgotten & rejected by God. Yet none of these inward & outward struggles are given the last word. Faith & truth keep fighting back & a chorus of hope resounds above everything. None of the negative things rob him of his hunger for more of God.
